Mr. Prof. Dan Stark

Dan Stark trained as a medical oncologist in Cambridge, London and Leeds.
He works as a Professor of Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Research in Leeds, where he leads national and international research programmes in this field. He has been the medical lead for the cancer service for young people in the Yorkshire region since about 2006, during his work for the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He has played his part in building a specialist clinical service for young people in Leeds since the late 1990s. He treats young people with testis cancer or sarcomas, and also supports adult clinicians looking after TYA if they find that helpful. Dan oversees a local research programme mainly about patient experience, using quality of life data in clinical practice, and novel models of follow-up after cancer. He currently holds competitive research grants including from the NIHR, UKRI and European Union. He was until recently Chair of the Clinical Studies Group for Teenagers and Young Adults with Cancer for the UK National Cancer Research organisation. Dan supports the evolution of NHS policy for TYA cancer care. He sits on the NHS England Clinical Reference Group for Children and TYA with Cancer, where he chaired the consultation on the NHS Service Specification for TYA with cancer. He sits on a taskforce, advising government on the next 10-year English Cancer Strategy as relates to Children and Young People. He has been at the heart of several European initiatives in TYA cancer since 2010. He is currently Chair of the European Network for Teenagers and Young Adults with Cancer.
